Being a Light Spring

As with Light Summer, “light” is the operative word for this warm neutral season. It is effervescent champagne in a clear tall flute, the sun sparkling like glitter off rippling beach waves, translucent easter basket grass, pastel salt-water taffy, icy mint, clear periwinkle, and peachy pink. At its darkest it is dark aqua, medium purple, and dark green-grey. The white contains sunshine yellow, but never oatmeal brown.

The clear, pure colors of Light Spring can have some shimmer and bedazzling treatments. Pearlescent faux suede works, and satin ballet slippers. Denim is medium or medium-light, with a touch of cornflower blue if possible, such as the “Rio” wash.

Light opal colors set with sparkling diamonds are in tune with this season, as are soft grey or white pearls, pale aquamarine, and London topaz.

Everything about Light Spring has a cheerful but light touch, as if Tinkerbell is flickering her sparkler wand on you. Makeup should also have that light touch, with clear light colors and luminous finishes. Eyes can have warm peach, clear ochre brown (not desert-y or muddy), light clear olive, champagne, or green grey shadows. Try a bright navy eye liner, or clear brown or green-grey. For mascara use brown-black.
