Being a Bright Spring

Spring people bring sunshine and spark. When the correct colors are next to their face, and the skin is not masked by matte makeup, their luminosity becomes evident.

Bright Spring colors have some of Winter’s saturation, but they have the clear, pure, lively, warm quality of sunny Spring, making them a little more light hearted. A dense carpet of early spring grass, a straw basket of Granny Smith apples, a bright coral lipstick, the Greek blue flag against whitewashed houses are the hues of Bring Spring—as are the bright Florida aqua ocean and a brand-new beach towel against dazzling bright sand and wading flamingoes. As with Bright Winter, these colors look natural and completely at home on the Bright Spring woman or man.

A thin sliver of black can set off these warm brights nicely in a print or with a belt. Other good neutrals are straw, light olive, and bright navy. Denim should be medium blue without brown or grey, and at its best in a rinse with a little cornflower blue in it, such as “Rio.” Angular prints like diagonals and diamonds work well for this dynamic season

In leather goods, bright tan, ecru, light olive, small shots of black, and warm grey work well. Whites have a touch of yellow. Silver or light gold well, as can bright rose gold. Shiny fabrics and dazzling rhinestones or gems suit this season and can be very compelling paired with smooth surfaces in pressed linen, real or faux leather, athletic wear knits, and fine wool.

Bright eyeshadows can look natural, such as aqua with yellow, or purple; for more subtlety, look to your light bright olive, green greys, and peach.
