Being a True Summer

The True Summer woman or man can be easily pictured lying under the cloudless sky in a fresh green meadow full of pink, yellow, and blue flowers, with a flowing creek meandering through. There is a cool freshness to the colors, but with the sun-faded characteristic of all the Summers, that keeps the colors softer than the bolder Winter colors. Where Springs have sunshine emanating from them, Summers have more of a moonlit glow.

True Summers wear monochromatic or low-contrast colors well--such as with lighter tints of the same color--or analogous colors (next to each other on the color wheel). They can add contrast with some texture, such as polished cotton worn with linen. Fabrics with some pearlescence, like silk also work well, as do patterns with soft-edged watercolor prints. True Summers personify the fluid, tranquil nature of water in flowy skirts very naturally, but they can also wear softly tailored—not hard-edged—lines well.

Denim is best in true blue colors in medium to medium dark. Highly faded or sandblasted are too pale to set off their best hues. Other neutrals for True Summers are jasmine white, medium (not inky dark) navy, grey, sandy beige, pink-beige to purply taupe, and mushroom.

As for all the Summers, pearls and luminous opals have the perfect luster—more-so than very sparkly jewelry. White colored metals are best for True Summers, including silver, platinum, and white gold. Include satin finishes at times. Neutrals for shoes and belts can be medium or dark gray, navy, stone, taupe, beige, or cool dark brown.

In cosmetics, some sheerness to keep medium or dark colors from being too heavy can help. Light lips are often too pale, but medium, cool pinks are lovely. The same neutrals as in clothing work well for eyes, including taupe, blue-grey, cool pink, violet-grey, soft navy, and cool beige.  Mascara can be navy, soft black, or taupe-black.
